Even though this development has been speculative for quite a while now, it was however confirmed today following a press release by both companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Google has announced plans to acquire Fitbit, the world&#39;s leading maker of wearable fitness activity trackers. The deal, worth about $2.1 billion, is one of Google&#39;s largest acquisitions. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SEa1lMJpur\">https:\/\/t.co\/SEa1lMJpur<\/a><\/p>&mdash; CNN (@CNN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNN\/status\/1190284905575571456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 1, 2019<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement released on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/hardware\/agreement-with-fitbit\/\">Google\u2019s Blog<\/a> by Rick Osterloh &#8211; Senior Vice President Devices &amp; Services, who disclosed that the company is proud of the partnership agreement. Osterloh also pointed out that collaborating with Fitbit would integrate the best of Google\u2019s smartwatch platforms and health applications together. Similarly, the CEO of Fitbit &#8211; James Park highlights the advantages to be garnered from both ends. In his words, Park asserts that;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;With Google&#8217;s resources and global platform, Fitbit will be able to accelerate innovation in the wearables category, scale faster and make health even more accessible.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This expansion nonetheless comes with regards to the deteriorating sales witnessed by Fitbit in late happenings. Which had created an opportunity for other competitors in the wearable technology market to take full advantages of such as Apple and Xiaomi. Hence in a bid to alleviate the completion and take back its stand Fitbit has decided to sell off its patent rights to the proprietors of Google.
